(Updated May 17, 2007)

This list represents our ever-evolving list of the top 10 (or so) EA links for publicly available (not for-pay) EA-related information. This list changes often and for a variety of reasons.

There is an unbelievable amount of EA-related content on the World Wide Web. We at EAdirections are constantly scanning the web for new, interesting and useful content for enterprise architecture practitioners. This list represents our current Top 10 Links for EA-related websites, but is in no way reflective of the number of useful resources we could recommend, depending on your needs.

Zachman Institute for Framework Advancement (ZIFA)  John Zachman’s Framework for Enterprise Architecture is one of the staples of our industry. Every Enterprise Architect should understand what the framework is, what it looks like, how to explain it, its purpose, and its origin.

Institute for Enterprise Architecture Developments (IFEAD)  This website contains a well-organized collection of resources to most of the commonly known EA information resources, as well as material on IFEAD’s framework for EA, called the Extended Enterprise Architecture Framework (E2AF).

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) One of the most mature and widely adopted Enterprise Architecture frameworks, as well as the associated Architecture Development Method (ADM), are provided from this website. If you are not a member, you have the ability to download the current version of documentation for evaluation purposes for 90 days free of charge.

David Linthicum’s Real World SOA Blog Read the blog posts and listen to podcasts from a successful and effective speaker, consultant, and implementer of service-oriented architecture (SOA) in the real world.

State of Virginia EA Website  The State of Virginia’s EA website is a simple but excellent example of an EA – easy to borrow from.

International Association of Software Architects (IASA) IASA is the premier association focused on the IT architecture profession through the advancement of best practices and education while delivering programs and services to IT architects of all levels around the world.  The association is committed to improving the quality of the IT architecture industry by developing and delivering standards, education programs and developing accreditation programs and services that optimize the development of architecture profession.

Architecture & Governance (A&G) Magazine Architecture & Governance Magazine is a new magazine targeted at EA and Governance practitioners. Published quarterly, A&G features industry case studies, analyst reports, and best practices related to our industry. Please register below to receive your free electronic subscription, and to request a complimentary PDF file of the current issue.

Web Service Standards  Anyone developing an SOA must choose among the many established and emerging standards for adoption in their own environment. The authors of this site share provide a very comprehensive listing of the various web service standards, as well as a link to the publishing organization’s specifications.

Charlie Betz ERP4IT Blog  Charlie Betz’ blog is focused primarily on IT service management issues, but we like it for enterprise architects because Charlie is one of the few folks focused on such a tactical area that has a real appreciation for EA as well.

skyscrapr – where architects become ARCHITECTS  A Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) website that is skewed toward the software architect, it also contains some resources and links relevant to enterprise architects.

Enterprise Architecture as Strategy  One of our favorite recent books on the subject of EA is Enterprise Architecture as Strategy, written by researchers from the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research, Dr. Jeanne Ross, Dr. Peter Weill, and Dr. David Robertson.

Gizmodo  This website is just plain fun for Architects.  Best blog on new ‘gadgets’.
MITRE EA Body of Knowledge (EABOK)  The MITRE Corporation has an EA Guide to Enterprise Architecture Body of Knowledge (EABOK) site that includes an excellent 141 page downloadable EA resource guide (a little dated but excellent and free).
Accendor’s “The Ideaspace”  A collection of articles and other materials focused on strategic and tactical IT management issues written by Bruce Stewart.
